Top Freshmen To Watch At USC In 2019
The 2019-20 college football season is upon us, USC is looking to rebound from an awful 5-7 season last year. After thinking they lost one of the top freshman Bru McCoy to Texas, McCoy changed his mind and ended up back at USC. It’s still up in the air if McCoy can play next season or not.
After McCoy, USC was able to bring in some possible players that will come in and make an immediate impact this season for Trojans.
Drake Jackson – Defensive End
Centennial HS | Corona, CA
USC was ranked 49th in the nation with 29 sacks last season. With Jackson coming in, that number should be better next season.
Drake Jackson is an athletic defensive end, that has drawn some comparison to former Trojan Star Leonard Williams. In spring practice, Jackson intercepted a pass with one hand and returned it for a touchdown. Jackson should be able to give opposing team’s quarterback’s nightmares with his presence.
Kyle Ford – Wide Receiver
Orange Lutheran | Orange, CA
Kyle Ford is USC’s top-rated recruit, ranking 38th on the 247sports composite. Five games into his senior season he suffered a season-ending knee injury. Before his injury, he had 456 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Two months ago, Ford was cleared to practice.
The former Orange Lutheran star is 6-foot-2 212; he is a competitive athlete with good size and strength. Also, Ford is willing to go up and battle for the ball. Ford will join a deep, wide receiving corps.
Max Williams – Cornerback
Junipero Serra | Gardena, CA
Secondary depth is an issue for USC, enter Max Williams. Williams tore his ACL in the opening game of his senior season. His rehab is going well and looks to be able to avoid a redshirt season. While only 5-9, 175 pounds, Williams is a playmaker at cornerback and will not back down from anybody. Williams will be one of many freshman looking for playing time in the secondary.
USC will be looking to many freshman players to make an impact this season, especially in the defensive backfield. The Trojans have eight new players coming in for the secondary.
