Three Players To Watch For The Chargers Against the Dallas Cowboys

The Los Angeles Chargers opened up Week 1 with a big win on the road against the Washington Football Team. They won the game in typical Chargers fashion — decided by one possession — 21-16.

They will host the Dallas Cowboys for their home opener at SoFi Stadium in Week 2. The Chargers offensive line will look to carry the momentum built from Week 1 against an injury-riddled Cowboys defense.  Here are the three players to watch:

1. Keenan Allen

Keenan Allen saw 13 targets in Week 1 against the Washington Football Team. He finished the game with nine receptions for 100 yards. Allen has been Justin Herbert‘s favorite target since last season. In order for the Chargers to win, he will need to duplicate his Week 1 performance, if not surpass it, against an injury-riddled Cowboys defense and star-studded Cowboys offense.

Keenan Allen is the most significant player to watch for two reasons. There has been chatter that Amari Cooper is better than Keenan Allen, so Allen will want to prove yet again that he is a top-tier wide receiver and remains one of, if not the most underrated players in the league. He is expected to have a big game, and the Chargers will need him to show out to win in Week 2

2. Derwin James

Derwin James is back and fully healthy. In Week 1, James had eight tackles and saw 55% of snaps. He should see more time on the field in Week 2 with Chris Harris Jr. being ruled out. James, Michael Davis, and Nasir Adderley will be relied on to slow down Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb.

Expect James to be more of a disruptor in Week 2, as Joey Bosa and James will look to limit Ezekiel Elliott and put pressure on Dak Prescott. James will look to continue to prove that he is the most versatile defender in the league.

3. Austin Ekeler

Austin Ekeler was not involved in the passing game in Week 1, but he is expected to see targets in Week 2. In a likely high-scoring game, they will need Ekeler to be involved in the passing game against the Cowboys. Ekeler saw just 58% of snaps in Week 1; he had 15 carries for 57 yards and one touchdown. Usually, Herbert targets Ekeler early and often, which could be the case in Week 2, as they will look to put up as many points as possible to outpace the Cowboys offense.

The Chargers will look to win two straight games against the NFC East and improve to 2-0. It will be a big game at SoFi Stadium — Keenan Allen, Derwin James, and Austin Ekeler will look to have big games and help Justin Herbert lead the team to a win.
