The Seattle Seahawks have holes to fill this offseason, and their fifth round pick, Jamarco Jones will help to alleviate some of these needs. Jones has the potential to make an instant impact on an offensive line that is in need of help. In the words of Lance Zierlein, he “doesn’t have many ‘wow’ features but he gets his job done.”

There is an effort to improve the O-line in Seattle, and with this pick, the Seahawks are showing their commitment to protecting Russell Wilson. Having an undersized franchise quarterback who has to run to make plays is not ideal, and a lineman like Jones will help to keep the pocket from collapsing too soon.

Pass Protection

He definitely showed a lot of improvement from his junior to senior year and looks more confident, especially in the passing game. At 300 pounds, he has great hands to go with his long arms. While sitting behind Taylor Decker at Ohio State, he learned how to utilize those hands and he punches incredibly well. He still has trouble against speed rushers but is great against the bull rush. His college tape shows he needs to figure out how to deal with stunts on the defensive line.

Run Blocking

Jones will also be able to help in the run game, blocking for first-round pick Rashaad Penny. One of Jones’ biggest strengths is his ability to get to the second level in the run game. Penny, who was an excellent tackle breaker in college, will have an opportunity for some big runs behind Jones.

Most of the problems that slid him into the fifth round are fixable at the NFL level. Despite all of the negatives, he still got a 5.66 grade from Lance Zierlein. We’ll see how he plays through training camp and the preseason with the Seahawks, but keep an eye out for Jamarco Jones this season.
