All week, we here at Sports Al Dente will be previewing all 14 matches on the WrestleMania 34 super card. This is shaping up to be one of the biggest WrestleManias in recent history, as every title will be defended on the card for the first time since 2001. Back then, though, there were only six active titles in WWE. This year, the ‘Mania card features nine title matches.

One of those title matches is Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka for the Smackdown Women’s Championship. The two leaders of the women’s revolution in WWE will square off for the first time ever at WrestleMania in what is sure to be an all-time classic match. It’s the title vs. the streak when these two collide in New Orleans. Let’s take a quick look at how this dream match came about.

The Match

How We Got Here

Charlotte won the Smackdown Women’s Championship from Natalya on the November 14th episode of Smackdown Live. This made The Queen the first woman to hold the Raw, Smackdown, Divas, and NXT women’s championships. Considered the leader of the women’s revolution, Charlotte has proved that she is just not someone with a famous dad. She is easily on pace to become the winningest women’s champion in WWE history.

Standing in her way on April 8 is Asuka, who is undefeated in her three years in WWE. Bursting on to the scene in 2015, the Empress of Tomorrow has become unbeatable, surpassing Goldberg’s record winning streak. Asuka earned a title opportunity by winning the first-ever women’s royal rumble match. While everyone assumed she would challenge Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, Asuka shocked everyone when she appeared on the Smackdown pay-per-view Fastlane and challenged Charlotte to a match at WrestleMania. The crowd erupted at the sight of Asuka and Charlotte in the ring together, as the dream match was set in stone later in the night.

The History

There is no history between Charlotte and Asuka, making this match feel even bigger than it already is.

The Feud

There really hasn’t been much of a feud between the two. Asuka’s lack of English makes it hard for her to cut promos on Charlotte. She has done a good job of communicating how she wants to “beat the best,” though, at WrestleMania. With Asuka on Raw and Charlotte on Smackdown, the two have only crossed paths twice in the past month. Keeping the two women far away from each other may be a smart move for WWE, as it keeps the matchup as fresh as possible heading into Sunday.

Expectations

This is, without a doubt, the most anticipated women’s match in WWE history. It’s a match worthy of the WrestleMania main event. The greatest women’s champion of all time, Charlotte, vs. the undefeated Asuka. Something has to give at WrestleMania, and I, for one, will have my eyes glued to the TV for this epic encounter.

WrestleMania 34 takes place from The Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans on April 8 with a special start time of 7 pm eastern/6pm central. The show is streaming live on the WWE Network.
