Have The San Francisco 49ers Found Their Gold Mine In Jimmy Garoppolo?

Have you ever received that text message that gives you a reason to question everything about life? Well, I did!

As I was getting ready for Monday Night Football with my compadre, I received a bone-chilling notification that the former New England 2nd string Quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, was traded the San Francisco 49ers. When I first saw this, I thought this was a joke! But as reality sunk in, my speculations were, Who the hell is our backup? What if Tom Brady injures himself (Knock on wood)? What is the GM smoking? There are so many unanswered questions and as a true 617 native, I demand answers! Besides the fact that the Patriots next best thing got traded and I am confused as a boyfriend shopping for his girlfriend in Victoria Secret, I strongly believe this will be Jimmy Garoppolo’s breakout season.

Besides the fact that the Patriots next best thing got traded and I am as confused as a boyfriend shopping for his girlfriend in Victoria Secret, I strongly believe this will be Jimmy Garoppolo’s breakout season.

As if the world didn’t know, the 49ers are winless. But, I believe the 49ers can win the next 4 out their next 9 games. You heard it here first, the 49ers will end their season with a 4-12 record with the addition of Jimmy G. In the two games he started in 2016 before he sprained his ac joint, Jimmy threw for a total of 502 yards, had a 68% completion percentage, averaged nearly 8 yards a toss, and threw 4 TDs. And to beat the dead horse, had a 113.3 rating

Brian Hoyer, who started the first 6 games for the 49ers before he was benched for C.J. Beathard (whose picture is not even up on NFL.com), completed 58% of his passes, averaged 6.1 yards a toss, and has thrown 4 picks. And to beat the dead horse once more has a 74.1 rating. Laugh out Loud. C.J. Breathard, the side-chick, who started the last 3 games for the 49ers completed 57% of his passes, threw 2 TDs, and turned the ball over 3 times. And to put the horse in the coffin, a 65.2 rating.

You’re probably thinking, “Jamal, Jimmy has only started 2 games against teams such as Miami and Arizona. You’re comparing Snickers to Twizzlers.” Guess what, less is more.  During the 2 games Jimmy has started, he has proven he can fit the ball into some air-tight spots. Especially with the deep ball. Not to mention, he’s backed up a future Hall-of-Famer. Remember the last quarterback that backed up a 5-star General? I’m talking about Aaron Rodgers.

With the workhorse, Carlos Hyde, in the backfield and a slightly above-average receiving corps around him; Pierre Garcon and Marquis Goodwin, and the emerging George Kittle as his Tight End blanket, there isn’t a reason why that offense shouldn’t move the chains. Also, with Jimmy’s ability to move around in the pocket, I expect him to make a lot throws on the run as we’ve seen the glimpse of his short playing time.

In conclusion, I am still baffled about this trade. People on my Facebook are saying the Patriots could sign Brian Hoyer as a backup. Which makes sense, since he is already familiar with the Patriots system. But he doesn’t have my blessings to be the starter when Brady retires. What can the Patriots be up to? Do they have their eye on a prize in next year’s draft or will they trade the 2nd round pick for a potential starter? I vote for the former since the 49ers 2nd round draft pick could potentially lead to the Patriots drafting nearly close to back-to-back next year.  I also wouldn’t be surprised if the Patriots traded for Patrick Mahomes II at this point.  But whatever the case is “In Bill I Trust.” Bill knows.
