After trading down and outside of the first round so they could add a first-round pick from the Atlanta Falcons in 2026, Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams are still happy with their relatively small six-man draft class. Sure, their first move was to add tight end Terrance Ferguson, and he’s expected to compete with Tyler Higbee for a starting role in LA.
Yet, even though Ferguson can be a new weapon in McVay’s offense, recently released footage from inside the Rams’ draft room revealed McVay gushing with excitement about another draft pick, running back Jarquez Hunter in the first round.
In the clip below, you can see and hear McVay saying, “There is no question that’s who I want. That was my top player for today.” Of course, this was on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft, but it looks like coach McVay got his guy in the end.

Hunter isn’t expected to be in the mix to push Kyren Williams for the starting job, but he should be able to compete with Blake Corum for backup duties. Who knows? If the Rams like what they see early on from the 5-foot-10, 209-pound rusher, perhaps Hunter will be in a featured role by the time the season is winding down.
But for now, Hunter needs to make the Rams feel like they don’t have a need to carry a fourth running back on the roster once teams trim down from 90 to 53 athletes later this fall.
