Les Snead Seems Open to Trading Pair of Los Angeles Rams Pro Bowlers

Sean McVay’s Los Angeles Rams surpassed expectations again by going 10-7 and winning the NFC West. Not only that, the Rams, despite being underdogs, defeated a 14-win Minnesota Vikings team in the Wild Card round and were within a possession of beating the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional round too.

Yet, now that the Rams’ season is over, general manager Les Snead could have some tough roster decisions to make on a couple of the team’s most recognizable players.

Shortly after the season ended, soon-to-be 37-year-old Matthew Stafford admitted that he’s not sure what his future holds. The former Pro Bowl quarterback admitted that retirement had crept into his mind but that he’d need more time to evaluate his options.

Meanwhile, Cooper Kupp was seemingly nearly traded during the season after the Rams got out to a 1-4 start. Of course, the Rams rebounded by winning nine of their next 11 games to reach the postseason. Yet, now that the season is over, it’s possible the Rams will consider trading the former All-Pro receiver who finished with just 710 yards.

In fact, Les Snead’s recent comments indicated that the Rams will be considering all their options when it comes to potentially trading Stafford and/or Kupp this offseason. Here was Snead when asked about Stafford.

“It’ll take someone calling or us reaching out if we want to do that. Those are the things that’ll be determined down the road here.”

Meanwhile, the sentiment was much of the same when asked about the possibility of Kupp getting a contract adjustment or being traded.

“[W]e hadn’t talked to him first so I wouldn’t do it here. Cooper and all these players that are at the end — macro level, we’re talking about a subset of players, not just Matthew and Cooper, that are coming to the end of their career and their contracts, they still have contracts with Rams. Do you keep going forward with that same contract? Do you restructure it in some way? For many reasons, those are all issues we really have to sit down and talk through. We haven’t done it yet.”

Kupp has a $29.8 million cap number next season and he hasn’t reached 1,000 yards for three years now. There’s no way he stays at that current price. Meanwhile, good quarterbacks are hard to find, and there should be a handful of teams who’d have a great amount of interest in Stafford, should the Rams decide it’s time to move on.
