Los Angeles Rams Coach Rejects Another Huge Job Offer, More Offers Still On The Table

The New York Jets have encountered a setback in their offensive coordinator search. According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, Nick Caley, the highly-regarded tight ends coach for the Los Angeles Rams, was the Jets’ top target for the position. However, Caley has declined the opportunity to join the Jets’ coaching staff.

Caley, who also served as the Rams’ pass-game coordinator this season, was a highly sought-after candidate following the news that Aaron Glenn would be hired as the Jets’ head coach. Despite being the Jets’ preferred choice, Caley has elected to explore other options, reportedly interviewing for offensive coordinator positions with the Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

As of Sunday, the Jets settled for Scott Turner at the position.

According to Albert Breer, Caley reportedly turned down an offer to be the New England Patriots offensive coordinator ahead of the 2024 season to stay with Sean McVay and the Rams

As noted by Robert Mays on The Athletic Football Show podcast, Caley was considered a rising star in coaching circles, regarded by many as the “No. 1 offensive coordinator prospect in the NFL.” Mays emphasized Caley’s high potential, stating that if he were tasked with entrusting his offense to a coach with no prior offensive coordinator experience, Caley would be his top choice.

This high praise underscores the significant loss for the Jets. Caley’s innovative coaching style and impressive track record with the Rams made him a highly coveted candidate. His decision to explore other opportunities, likely influenced by the uncertainty surrounding the Jets’ quarterback situation, represents a significant setback for the team’s offensive aspirations.

In addition to Caley, Rams quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone, offensive assistant and passing game specialist Nate Scheelhaase and pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach Aubrey Pleasant are all drawing interest from other teams for offensive or defensive coordinator positions.
