Bleacher Report recently suggested the Rams make another trade, although this time it is to take a flyer on a backup quarterback, in an effort to find a (possible) successor to Stafford.

“Quarterback is an underrated need for the Rams that is starting to become more apparent,” BR wrote. “As noted before, it wouldn’t be entirely shocking for the Rams to move on from Stafford this offseason. Even if they don’t, it would make sense to go after a young quarterback like Will Levis. He’s only had two years to prove himself with the Titans, and he’s dealt with coaching turnover in that time. Sean McVay would be one of the best coaches to develop him into a starter.”

This is a common refrain for most failed young quarterbacks — Sean McVay can fix this. Over the last handful of years McVay has been connected with Sam Darnold, Carson Wentz, Zach Wilson, and so on. Which may or may not be true. The Rams handed Jared Goff to McVay, which went fairly well, but it can be argued that Goff never truly blossomed until he worked with former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Of course, Stafford was already a great quarterback for the Lions before joining the Rams.

Furthermore, none of McVay’s hand-selected quarterbacks have ever risen to the level of starter in the league. But, over the last handful of years, McVay has been connected with Sam Darnold, Carson Wentz, Zach Wilson, and so on.

It seems that Levis is only the failed QB du jour.

All that said, the Rams will need a competent quarterback behind their 37-year-old signalcaller. Most recently, they have opted for more experienced options in Jimmy Garoppolo and Wentz.
