Losing talented front-office scouts is nothing new to the Los Angeles Rams. But the most recent interview request from the Jacksonville Jaguars hits very close to home for Rams general manager Les Snead. It was reported Tuesday morning that the Jaguars are interested in interviewing James Gladstone for their vacant general manager position, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Shortly before Schefter’s tweet, Snead’s wife, Kara, posted the following about Gladstone;
“[We] met James when he was a HS offensive coordinator… Looked at Les and said .. he is THE most impressive young person I’ve ever met. 9 years later—he’s had MAJOR part in building an absolutely innovative scouting system that has taken us to two SBs. Also just all-time great human.”
Jaguars Request Interview With Los Angeles Rams Scouting Director

Obviously Snead liked what he saw. Gladstone, currently the Scouting Director for the Los Angeles Rams, has spent his entire NFL career with the organization, building a strong working relationship with new Jaguars head coach Liam Coen during their overlapping tenures in Los Angeles (2018-20 and 2022).
Gladstone’s potential appointment as Jaguars GM carries significant weight. The Rams have demonstrated a strong track record in recent drafts, a testament to the scouting acumen cultivated within their organization. Gladstone, having played a key role in this success, is highly regarded within NFL circles.

The Jaguars’ search for a new GM has taken an unconventional path. After initially expressing their intention to retain Trent Baalke, the team abruptly changed course, opting for a new direction. This decision, likely influenced by the negative perceptions surrounding Baalke within the coaching community, adds another layer of intrigue to the ongoing search.
Coen’s significant influence in the GM search process is a notable departure from the traditional structure of NFL front offices.
