It’s no secret, the Los Angeles Rams need an edge rusher. They were ranked 25th in the league by pressure rate. This offseason they have been linked to every draftable and free-agent outside linebacker that exists.
PFF’s salary cap analyst, Brad Spielberger, has added two more free agents to the list of potential fits for the Rams opposite sophomore Byron Young. And Brian Burns is not on the list!?
PFF Analyst Links 2 Pass Rushers to the Los Angeles Rams
Josh Uche: According to PFF, Uche is the 9th-best pass rusher in free agency and the 48th-best overall. He saw a huge production drop-off from 2022 to 23. He went from 56 pressures to 37 and from 12 sacks to three.
Uche possesses all the physical traits that the Rams have looked for in edge rushers, but the big question is, Is the real Uche the one from 2022 or the one from the rest of his career?
The upside for Uche is that he shouldn’t break the bank if the Rams are interested, Over the Cap gives him an average per-year salary valuation of $2.2 million.
Darrell Taylor: Taylor is PFF’s 21st-best edge rusher in free agency and 138th overall. Taylor also took a step back in 2023, but not nearly as dramatic as Uche. He went from 9.5 sacks to 6.5 sacks but maintained his pressure rate with 27 in both 2022 and 23.
Spielberger has pegged the kind of athlete the Los Angeles Rams look for in an edge rusher and Taylor is every bit of that. His consistency over his career makes him a better option for the Rams and will be another budget option for the Rams. Over the cap gives him a valuation of around $3 million per year.
