Les Snead Wants Raheem Morris Gone, But Not For The Reason You Think

Les Snead started his season-ending press conference by addressing the matter of the Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator, Raheem Morris. No, it wasn’t to fire him. Quite the contrary. Snead wanted to take the opportunity to heap praise on the DC after finishing his third season with the team. It seems that Snead’s three-minute brag session was his sales pitch to the NFL teams in need of a head coach.

Morris has already been sought after by five of the seven coach-needy teams; the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, and Washington Commanders.

Les Snead’s Praise of Morris

Les Snead started off by saying Raheem Morris is most importantly a ‘great human being’ and that he is coded to build relationships regardless of position in the organization. And that the respect Morris shows for everyone flows back to Morris. Snead said that is Morris’ ‘superpower’ and that it would translate to ‘any organization.’ Snead joked that there would be ‘tampering charges’ because of the number of players texting Morris, wanting to get on his roster.

Morris’ On-Field Case For A Head Coaching Job

If effusive praise about soft things like taking care of people isn’t your thing, Les Snead also spoke to Morris’ high IQ that he has unleashed on football as well as his superior football acumen, which in part has allowed him to coach both sides of the ball.

He also gave him recognition for the defensive playcalling in his very first season with the Rams which resulted in a Super Bowl. Morris had big shoes to fill after the Brandon Staley-led defense finished as one of the best defenses in the league. Snead also praised how the 2023 defense developed which was largely built of young, inexperienced late-round draft picks and undrafted free agents. Snead singled out the second-half adjustments that Morris made after some rocky first halves and further praised Morris’ ability to calm the waters when things weren’t going the Rams way.

Morris’ Candidacy For Head Coach

Raheem Morris isn’t the biggest name on the coaching carousel right now, but one that would serve any team well. He has proved that he can get the most out of a well-stocked roster as well as refine diamonds in the rough. Both are required to build a championship team and a coach that can do both is rare.

If Les Snead gets his way, he will be looking to replace Morris before too long.
