Nolan Arenado has reportedly declined a trade to the Houston Astros, as he awaits a final decision from the Los Angeles Dodgers. According to St. Louis Cardinals insider John Denton, the All-Star third baseman still wants to explore potential opportunities with LA
Dodgers First Choice For Nolan Arenado
“He doesn’t want to do something in sort of a panic move this time of year. He wants to wait and see what his best options are. I think we all know, we all understand — Arenado wants to be told ‘No’ by LA,” Denton said on ESPN Thursday. “That’s his first choice, that’s where he still wants to go.”
Despite public statements suggesting that Max Muncy will be the starting third baseman, there are indications that the team remains interested in acquiring Arenado.
“The Dodgers have kind of downplayed their interest… Don’t be snookered by that. They still want Arenado.” Denton reiterated, “Until Los Angeles bluntly tells him ‘No’ I think he’s gonna hold out for that option first and foremost.”
Perhaps the biggest reason for seeking this option is that Arenado wants to compete for a World Series championship. He also grew up in nearby Orange County.
Recent social media activity from Arenado fueled speculation about his desire to play in Los Angeles. The All-Star third baseman posted a series of Instagram stories featuring Kendrick Lamar’s song “Dodger Blue,” sparking rumors of a possible trade.
