Following Nolan Arenado’s decision to decline a potential trade to the Houston Astros, rumors surrounding his departure from the St. Louis Cardinals have largely subsided.
Despite initial speculation suggesting the Los Angeles Dodgers as a potential trade destination, there has been minimal traction in finding a new suitor for the All-Star third baseman. This lack of movement indicates that a trade may not be imminent, and Arenado may remain with the Cardinals for the foreseeable future.
However, it was reported that the Dodgers were atop Arenado’s list of trade destinations, and that was the reason for rejecting a trade to the Astros, seemingly keeping the possibility of a move by the Dodgers open to conversation.
Insider Provides Definitive Answer To Nolan Arenado, Los Angeles Dodgers Trade Rumors

But, in a conversation with Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain, ESPN insider Buster Olney offered a significant update regarding the Dodgers’ potential involvement in acquiring Arenado.
“He has been on a platter for teams to make a trade for for months,” Olney said. “And I asked about the Dodgers about six weeks ago. And to protect the source I have to sort of phrase it this way. I was told: ‘If the Dodgers wanted him, they would have gotten him.’
“It’s not like it’s been a secret that he’s been available, and to this point, it doesn’t look like he’s at the top of their list in terms of an interesting player.”

Given the Dodgers’ aggressive pursuit of top free agents this winter, their potential link in acquiring Nolan Arenado is unsurprising.
The Dodgers have already made significant investments in bolstering their pitching staff, acquiring key additions like Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki, Tanner Scott, and Kirby Yates. These moves have significantly enhanced the team’s pitching depth, addressing a key area of concern following their recent World Series victory.
While adding Arenado would undoubtedly strengthen the Dodgers’ lineup, it appears that the team is content with its current roster composition and may prioritize other strategic objectives.
