This past offseason saw general manager Joe Hortiz overhaul the Los Angeles Chargers’ wide receiving corps. They got rid of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, which required Justin Herbert to shoulder more of the burden as one of the offensive leaders in the locker room.
Herbert has passed the test with flying colors while working closely with stud rookie Ladd McConkey, who’s on track to surpass 1,000 yards if he can rack up 40 yards in the next Chargers game. But the Chargers could still use another weapon as they inch closer and closer to the playoffs.
But the good news is, Jim Harbaugh and company may be landing a potential upgrade to their receiving corps in the very near future.

Diontae Johnson linked to Los Angeles Chargers
With Keenan Allen and Mike Williams gone, Justin Herbert has still managed to spread the ball around enough to get four pass-catchers over the 400-yard mark. But the Los Angeles Chargers could still use another receiving threat to help keep defenders guessing. Yet, an upgrade could be arriving soon.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chargers could be the team that ends up landing Diontae Johnson through the NFL waiver process. All other 31 teams can place a claim on Johnson now that the Baltimore Ravens have released him, but Schefter specifically mentions the Chargers (and the Chiefs) as a team to watch.
While many other teams may be eyeing the chance to add a one-time Pro Bowl receiver to their roster, Johnson likely only wants to land with a playoff contender, which could suit the Chargers well here.
We should know more by Monday when Johnson’s waiver claims will be processed.
