The Los Angeles Chargers’ biggest moves of free agency are yet to come. But according to NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, they have set the tone for what to expect heading into the 2024 season.
Los Angeles Chargers’ Trade Leverage Wanes As Deadline Approaches
The Chargers have so far added the 6’1″ 238 lbs running back, Gus Edwards. One of the league’s best blocking tight ends, Will Dissly. And re-signed Alohi Gilman, the big-hitting, aggressive ball-hawking safety.

Free Agency Point Toward The Los Angeles Chargers Increased Physicality
Jeremiah says this about what the moves mean for the Chargers going forward,
“It’s no mystery what they wanna do. They want to be more physical. They want to run the football. They think in doing that it will take some of the pressure off Justin Herbert. They’ll be able to get Justin Herbert‘s best and they want to be able to finish games. These are two moves that they’ve already made here, they’re going to help them finish games. They’re not going to spend a ton of money in free agency. These are targeted signings. They have work to do to get under the cap, but this is a pretty clear identity…” “…I’m telling you the way this is looking for the Chargers. Physical, physical and, wait for it Physical.”
Maurice Jones-Drew, co-host of NFL Network’s Free Agent Frenzy, echoed Jeremiah,
“We’ve seen the high flying and the throwing the ball over the yard. We’ve heard your calls with mad money. The the rocket arm of Justin Herbert, but it’s time to win. And and that’s what Jim Harbaugh does. Wherever he goes, He finds a way to win.
This is exactly how John Harbaugh has operated, building around the line of scrimmage, with big bodies and physical players.
This Philosophy Will Spill Over Into The Draft
Jeremiah finished up by talking about the draft. He reiterated that there is a likelihood that the Chargers will opt for Notre Dame offensive tackle, Joe Alt, over any exciting skill position players that are available at pick five.
