The Los Angeles Chargers head into the offseason with a long checklist. On the defensive side of the ball, the biggest questions will be about edge rushers Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa. Mack is set to be a free agent, looking for his last chance to cash in on his career. Meanwhile, Bosa is coming off another season with nagging injuries and low production.
While the Chargers will also have the promising young Tuli Tuipulotu and Bud Dupree on the roster for 2025, the pass rush was one of the worst in the league, posting a 19.8 pressure percentage — 7th worst in the NFL.

Los Angeles Chargers Draft: Edge Rusher Mike Green

In their latest mock draft, Pro Football Focus sends Marshall’s Mike Green to the Chargers in the first round with the 22nd overall pick in the draft.
“Green would inject some youth into the Chargers’ edge room and is the only edge defender in college football over the past two years who earned 90.0-plus PFF grades as a pass-rusher and a run defender,” writes Max Chadwick.
The 6 foot 4, 250-pound edge rusher is already garnering comps to Mack, because of the combination of size, speed, and agility, but also due to their highly productive stints at smaller schools.
In a dominant senior season at Buffalo in 2013, Mack started all 13 games and recorded an impressive stat line. He amassed 100 total tackles, including 19 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, three interceptions (one of which he returned for a touchdown), and forced five fumbles.
Mike Green achieved unprecedented heights in program history, joining the legendary Randy Moss as the only first-team All-American in the program’s history. Green’s impact was undeniable, leading the FBS in sacks (17.0), sack yardage (144), tackles for loss (22.5), and tackles by a defensive lineman (84). His 17 sacks shattered the previous Sun Belt Conference record.
The Chargers have many fish to fry this offseason, but landing an edge rusher in the draft will go a long way in helping Jim Harbaugh build a lasting playoff contender.
