Pro Football Focus’ NFL analyst, Trevor Sikkema recently ranked the top 32 edge rushers going into the 2024 season and he placed Los Angeles Chargers‘ edge rushers, Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa in the top half of the rankings.
Sikkema ranked Mack at 7 behind Aidan Hutchinson and Bosa at 13 just ahead of Bryce Huff.
The Chargers are just one of three teams to earn two players in the top 15. The Dallas Cowboys with Micah Parsons at 2 and Demarcus Lawrence at 12 and the Miami Dolphins with Jaelan Phillips at 10 and Bradley Chubb are the others.
Los Angeles Chargers Edge Rushers
7. Khalil Mack
Just when Mack is supposed to be slowing down, he recorded his highest run-defense (90.8) and pass-rush (86.3) grades since he was a Chicago Bear in 2020. At 32 years old, he was back to his elite ways in 2023.
Mack finished last season with 88 pressures, the sixth most amount edge rushers. He had the 4th most sacks and the second-most STOPS, some of the best numbers of his career.
13. Joey Bosa
Bosa has slowed due to age and injury, but he is still a very solid edge defender. He hasn’t played as much or as well as we’re used to, but 2023 was his second straight season with a pass-rush grade above 80.0 and a run-defense grade above 70.0. Even if he doesn’t get back to elite Bosa status, he is still a reliable, all-around three-down edge player.
Bosa has played in 14 games over the last two seasons. The last time we saw him play a full season he racked up 69 pressures and 10 sacks. He will have to find a healthy streak this season to remain in this conversation though.
The Chargers have a budding young edge rusher, Tuli Tuipulotu. He will look to follow up his rookie year with another good season. They also added Bud Dupree to the room to add depth just incase Bosa never finds full strength.
