After a disappointing end to the season, it’ll be up to Los Angeles Chargers general manager Tom Telesco to head up a perfect Chargers draft to put them over the hump next year. Adding some rookies that perform well in key places could be the difference between a first-round exit and making a deep playoff push. Getting this draft right will also help when Justin Herbert‘s extension needs to get done.
Los Angeles Chargers Mock Draft
Chargers Draft: Round 1, Pick 21
The Bolts address their secondary with their first-rounder. They pick Deonte Banks from Maryland with the 21st overall selection. Banks was a standout at Maryland and has the ability to match up with anyone on the field. He should be a solid addition to a unit that struggled at times last year. Especially if the J.C. Jackson experiment proves to be a failure, this leaves a younger option in the wings. His stock has risen since the combine, posting 4.35 in the 40 and a 42 inch vertical jump
Chargers Draft: Round 2, Pick 54
In the second round, they target Daiyan Henley from Washington State to beef up the front seven. Henley is a linebacker that’s great in coverage and is at his best when targeting runners out of the backfield. With Drue Tranquill a free agent, it’ll be ideal to have a backup plan at cover linebacker.
Chargers Draft: Round 3, Pick 85
Bowling Greens Karl Brooks is a very high-ceiling pick that’s a very physical player. The only knock on him in scouting reports has been his ability to pass rush. Learning from some of the best in the league would certainly benefit him as well as being a backup plan if Khalil Mack leaves.
Chargers Draft: Round 4, Pick 125
Spending the final pick on defense the Chargers draft Moro Ojomo from Texas in the interior of the line. Ojomo can set them up for the future of the position and play a similar role to Ogbonnia last year.
Chargers Draft:
Round 5, Pick 158 | Round 6, Pick 200 | Round 7, Pick 241
With the final three picks, the focus was on providing some depth at some positions of need. The Nittany Lions, Juice Scruggs isn’t going to start over Corey Linsley but is a good insurance or eventual heir. Jalen Moreno-Cropper from Fresno State is a good contested catch receiver that could be a good option behind Mike Williams. Finally, Nick Salvidieri from Old Dominion is another depth piece on the line that is still trying to find its groove.
