Brock Bowers’ Fit With Jim Harbaugh And the Los Angeles Chargers

There is no doubt that Bowers is an incredible football player in a position of need for the Chargers, but will Jim Harbaugh opt in that direction?

In his introductory press conference, Harbaugh first emphasized protecting the quarterback. His second point of emphasis was a power running game. Adding Greg Roman as an offensive coordinator is a guarantee that the Chargers will run the ball. And run it a lot. He has ranked in the top three in rushing attempts in seven of his ten seasons as an OC and in the top 10 in every season.

Could Harbaugh zig the zagging system of draft value to build a Greg Roman offense? Definitely. Drafting a running back, like Michigan’s Blake Corum , in the first round would be a reach, but drafting Notre Dame Tackle Joe Alt is a definite possibility as he addresses both protecting Justin Herbert and opening up the running game.

He may even zag even harder than the hardcore zaggers and trade back to accumulate more picks.

Harbaugh’s 49er draft track record in the first round was to lean into defense. Three of his four first-round picks went to the defense.

Despite the high odds, the point is that Harbaugh is a wild card as of now. What we can count on is that he is all about fundamentals before flash.
