2026-01-02 at 22:03I’m hearing so many different things Ryan, that we don’t have enough money to be competitive, or we are going for a top-5 class. You got any intel on that?

2026-01-03 at 09:06I maintain that they will be aggressive and go after some of the top players as positions of need. Won’t be a large class, but should have some really good, starting quality, players.

2026-01-07 at 22:19Ryan where do you feel the staff is as far as how many players they want to take in the portal? I’m mainly concerned with the acquisitions they’ve made on defense (the kids from UW and Penn State). They seem more like depth/rotational pieces at best, not instant-impact difference makers. I was under the assumption that the staff weren’t aiming for a large portal class, with the idea in mind that they would prioritize getting guys that could contribute instantly and in a big way. So far we’ve seen the opposite outside of maybe two pickups, am I justified in being concerned with where we stand currently?

2026-01-08 at 13:37I think you are in the right line of thinking, but here is what I would add.
Impact player doesn’t necessarily mean a 3-down, 65 snaps a game player. Deven Bryant out of Washington is probably not a 3-down starter for USC, but he is a fantastic run-stuffer, and can be utilized in short-yardage run situations.
Fisher out of Penn State is a high-ceiling guy who had more pressures last year than anyone on USC.
VanSumeren, out of Michigan State, will absolutely be a rotational starter on the D-line.
This class doesn’t necessarily have the big-name expensive players, but I do think USC has been very intentional in who they added. Lotta reps and tape.
And yes, it will be a small class. Probably in the 8-12 range, so almost filled up.
