Fantasy Football Updates: Week 13 Injuries And Waiver Wire Week 14

Lamar Jackson, QB – Baltimore Ravens

  • Exited the game against the Broncos in the 2nd quarter with a knee injury
    • Did not return to the game and was diagnosed with either a PCL sprain or a bone bruise and he could miss a couple of weeks
  • This is a big blow for the Ravens as they are in the thick of things to nab a spot in the playoffs
  • Backup quarterback, Tyler Huntley, stepped in and will be the starter for however long Jackson will be sidelined
  • Huntley has looked OK for the Ravens in Jackson’s place, but he’s not going to be a difference-maker in fantasy football
    • While he did score the eventual game-winning touchdown for Baltimore, his real football value is a lot higher than his fantasy value
  • The pool is getting a lot shallower in regards to diving in for a waiver wire find but here are some guys that can possibly help you in this final BYE week of the 2022 season

Jimmy Garoppolo, QB – San Francisco 49ers

  • Garoppolo left the game on a cart in the 2nd quarter against the Miami Dolphins
    • He did not return to the game. Although he will not need foot surgery. So his 2022 season is might not be over
  • This has been a roller coaster of a season for Garoppolo
    • He was going to be traded in the offseason, ends up back on the team, takes over for an injured Trey Lance, gets this team into playoff contention, gets hurt again, and will likely miss the rest of the regular season
  • The final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, Brock Purdy, came in off the bench to take over for Garoppolo and led the Niners to victory
    • He threw for 210 passing yards, two scores, and one interception
  • He’s the projected starter for the rest of the season and San Francisco has a favorable schedule that could make Purdy a serviceable option down the road
    • His fantasy value is about average and if you need a streaming option he’s probably one of the better options out there
      • He’s got a good matchup this week if you need an option with six teams on a BYE week in Week 14

Kenneth Walker III, RB – Seattle Seahawks

  • A lot of fantasy managers held their collective breath when Walker started hobbling in the second quarter after a short run
    • He did not return to the game. His injury is being labeled as an ankle strain and he might not miss any time at all
  • It’s safe to say that Walker has been one of the best waiver wire additions this season and even missing him for one week could be a big loss for your fantasy roster
    • He could miss one week at the most, but of course, monitor the situation to see how practice goes for him and if he can suit up
  • The situation in Seattle’s backfield is rough in case Walker can’t play because DeeJay Dallas was also injured in that game as well and Travis Homer is still dealing with an injury as well
    • Tony Jones would be the only healthy running back if none of those guys can play in Week 14, but it’s likely that either Homer or Dallas should be able to go this week to pair with Jones
  • If Walker isn’t playing this week, it’s hard to trust anyone else in this Seahawks backfield even on a run-first team
  • Look at running backs Zonovan Knight, Gus Edwards, Cam Akers, or Alexander Mattison if you need to stream at the position this week

Courtland Sutton, WR – Denver Broncos

  • The Broncos lost Sutton for the rest of the game against the Ravens after he suffered a hamstring injury in the first half
    • The severity of the injury is still to be determined but it’s looking like he’ll miss at least a couple of weeks
  • This passing offense in Denver has just taken another blow. More proof that this passing offense isn’t one to rely on in fantasy football
  • Russell Wilson will need to take a serious look in the mirror this offseason as they try to bounce back next season. This season is a lost cause and has been for a long time now
  • Sutton was the main target in this offense and was a somewhat reliable option, but now just stay away from the passing offense
  • If you need to add an option at the receiver position off the waiver wire, look to other offenses instead of Denver’s

Treylon Burks, WR – Tennessee Titans

  • Made a great catch in the first half of the game against the Philadelphia Eagles for his first receiving touchdown but took a big hit at the end of it
    • He was ruled out of the game with a concussion and will enter the protocol for the week
  • Burks has really shown up in the last three weeks. He’s totaled 205 receiving yards off of 14 receptions
  • Losing Burks will be a loss to the Titans offense but he shouldn’t be out for a long time. He might miss a week at the most
  • Robert Woods benefits with Burks being out, as does Nick Westbrook-Ikhine
    • Both are good waiver wire pickup options as the Titans face the Jaguars this week

Hayden Hurst, TE – Cincinnati Bengals

  • Hurst left the game against the Chiefs in the 2nd quarter with a calf injury
    • It’s looking like it’s a Grade 1 strain. He should miss a few weeks
  • Hurst was enjoying a great bounce-back season after having a down year in 2021
    • He’s currently ranked as the 10th best fantasy tight end and also is one of 10 tight ends with at least 100 fantasy points
  • The backup options at tight end for Cincinnati are not great, so it’s not advisable to pick up any tight ends from this offense off waiver wires in Hurst’s absence
  • This is great news for Tyler Boyd as well as for Ja’Marr Chase to the offense. Boyd was going to be the odd man out
    • Now with Hurst missing time, Chase, Boyd, and Tee Higgins will lead this passing attack and the Bengals offense won’t miss a beat
  • If you need to fill a tight end spot with the loss of Hurst for a short time, look to the following guys as good streaming options

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 14 Picks

Waiver Wire Week 14 Quarterbacks

Mac Jones, New England Patriots vs. ARZ (ESPN Roster Percentage – 6%)

  • Jones has had at least a 60% completion rate in every game in the last three weeks. So he’s found the biggest thing missing from his arsenal this season: consistency
  • With 195 yards and a touchdown, he didn’t blow anyone away this past week, particularly in fantasy, but that was against a very good Bills defense on a short week
  • Just two weeks ago he put up 23 points against the Vikings and this week, he’s playing the Cardinals
  • Arizona’s defense has allowed nearly 20 points a game so Jones is a risk but could pay off big time

Jared Goff, Detroit Lions vs. MIN (ESPN Roster Percentage – 29.6%)

  • The pickings are getting slimmer with every week we get closer to the end of the regular season
    • While Goff may not be the best option, he’s one of the better options this week if you need a streaming option
  • He’s coming off a great performance against the Jaguars last week when he went for 340 passing yards and two passing touchdowns with no interceptions
  • Playing in a divisional game against the Vikings this week, expect the Lions to throw everything at the Minnesota defense to put points on the board
  • Even if the Vikings end up getting ahead by a lot, the Lions will air it out to come back and this is where fantasy players don’t care what the score is
    • The more passing attempts, the more potential for Goff to rack up yards and potential touchdowns as well

Waiver Wire Week 14 Running Backs

Alexander Mattison, Minnesota Vikings vs. DET (ESPN Roster Percentage – 22.9%)

  • Once again the waiver wire pool is drying up and the offerings are kind of weak as we move along in the 2022 season
  • Mattison is a good pickup in a potentially high-scoring game for the Vikings, but this is purely a FLEX play and nothing more
    • He’s going to need to find the end zone once in order to make this waiver wire pick up a worthwhile move this week
  • The Lions are giving up 142.4 rushing yards per game over their last five games and this could mean that both Mattison and Dalvin Cook can have big days in this divisional tilt

James Cook, Buffalo Bills vs. NYJ (ESPN Roster Percentage – 25.3%)

  • It’s looking like it’s time for Cook to start…cooking. I’ll see myself out.
  • Cook has seen 10 or more touches in two of the last three weeks and it’s starting to feel like Buffalo is about to give him the reigns to see if he can be their back of the future
  • Not only has he had a lot of touches in the past few weeks but he’s done quite a bit with it as well, averaging nearly eight yards a carry two weeks ago and 4.6 this week
  • It’s also worth noting the Jets have given up 20 points to opposing RBs the last two weeks in a row giving Cook a good matchup

Waiver Wire Week 14 Wide Receivers

Donovan Peoples-Jones, Cleveland Browns vs. CIN (ESPN Roster Percentage – 44%)

  • He’s scored double-digit points in three of his last four games
  • With Deshaun Watson back in, his productivity has no reason to decrease
  • Moving forward, the Browns play the Bengals, Ravens, Saints, and Commanders, not a single scary secondary in that group

Robert Woods, Tennessee Titans vs. JAX (ESPN Roster Percentage – 46%)

  • It’s already been brought up that Treylon Burks may miss this coming week with a concussion
  • Woods has led the team in targets over the past three weeks, even with Burks returning to the lineup in Week 10
  • While he hasn’t exactly put up great numbers, there is the promise that this week could lead to better stats
  • The Jaguars gave up 40 points to the Lions last week and let Jared Goff throw for 340 passing yards with two passing scores
    • Amon-Ra St. Brown went off for 11 receptions, and 114 receiving yards and both Lions caught touchdowns
      • DJ Chark had a great game too, going for 98 receiving yards off of five receptions
  • It’s not a bonafide lock, but the chances are high that Woods could be one of the better options at the receiver position in fantasy leagues, here in Week 14

Waiver Wire Week 14 Tight Ends

Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars vs. TEN (ESPN Roster Percentage – 35%)

  • While Engram has not been a big producer the last three weeks, he has a good chance to rebound to finish his season strong
    • Last three weeks, Engram has totaled five receptions off of seven targets for 26 receiving yards and zero touchdowns
  • Last week against the Lions though, Engram was able to score a touchdown for the first time since Week 8 and he had five receptions for 30 yards
  • Jacksonville’s offense has been very up-and-down this season and they’ve usually had a good bounce-back game after a dud week
  • Playing the Titans this week, we could see Engram racking up a lot of yards to make him a great stream start this week
    • Tennessee has given up the fifth most receiving yards to tight ends

MyCole Pruitt [BYE WEEK] (ESPN Roster Percentage – 0.1%)

  • Yes. Picking up a tight end off waiver wires on a BYE week is a risky move this late in the season
  • However, he has put up 7 points each of the last two weeks and I fully expect that to continue going forward
  • With Kyle Pitts out, Drake London is sucking most of the defense’s attention away from him
  • He is entirely touchdown dependent but the Falcons offense is fully capable of scoring consistently and Pruitt can and likely will continue to benefit from that

Waiver Wire Week 14 Defenses/Special Teams

Los Angeles Rams vs. LV (ESPN Roster Percentage – 25.4%)

  • I know this seems crazy given how beat up this team is but there is a logic behind the madness
  • They scored 8 points behind a Seahawks offense that can no longer be taken lightly
  • Their upcoming schedule is against the Raiders, Packers, and Broncos which not only is a list of the turnover-prone list but can be crucial timing with the playoffs as well
  • This is a defense you can pick up of waiver wires that will last you weeks as well

Kansas City Chiefs vs. DEN (ESPN Roster Percentage – 42.8%)

  • While the Broncos defense has only allowed 30 points to one team this season, they have yet to face the Chiefs this season
  • This game is a good game for the Chiefs to grab a stranglehold of the AFC West division and you can expect them to throw points on the board in bunches
    • Also considering they had a below-average offensive game last week against the Bengals, the Broncos will receive the brunt of their anger this week unfortunately

Waiver Wire Week 14 Kickers

Robbie Gould, San Francisco 49ers vs. TB (ESPN Roster Percentage – 38.5%)

  • Gould had the third most fantasy points among kickers last week
  • The loss of Jimmy Garoppolo from San Francisco’s offense could lead to Gould having lots of chances to convert field goals
    • Brock Purdy looked good against Miami, but he wasn’t perfect and they settled for fields goal more often than punching in touchdowns on offense
  • Gould is a great pickup off waiver wires for the rest of the season with this potentially new-look offense

Greg Zuerlein, New York Jets vs. BUF (ESPN Roster Percentage – 7.9%)

  • He’s scored 10 or more points in two of his last three games
  • With Mike White in charge, somehow the Jets offense is more capable of scoring
  • He’s not the safest bet off waiver wires but if you’re still streaming kickers, he’s not the worst one either
